The 147th Headquarters Exhibition of the Akita Dog Preservation Society, headquartered in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, was held on May 3 at the second parking lot of Omagari Civic Hall in Daisen City. The exhibition was held in Daisen City for the first time, and the venue was crowded with Akita dog fans. Under the blue sky, the Akita dogs, looking dignified, challenged the judges and showed many heartwarming exchanges with the exhibitors and cute expressions in between the judging. Here is a look back at the day when the venue was “full of Akita dogs” with photos.
Puppy Brings Smiles
A friendly puppy is popular at the event. People around the puppy instantly turned into smiling faces.
I’ll Do My Best
Children joined the adults as handlers holding the dog’s leash. The Akita dog seemed relaxed as the boy confidently held his leash.
Relax
Before the judging began, a unique sense of tension filled the air. The handler performing as an instructor patted the Akita dog down, and the dog looked comfortable. Did the dog relax a little?
Fluffy Curly Tails
The curly tails are also an essential part of the judging process. On the exhibition day, the sky was blue, and the dogs’ tails looked even fluffier in the sunlight.
The Spectacular Judging Scene
The 147th Headquarters Exhibition showcased 153 dogs from around Japan. The judging scene with all the Akita dogs lined up in a row was a sight to behold.
Welcome Fireworks
Daisen City, the site of the Spring Headquarters Exhibition, is known as the “City of Fireworks.” On May 2, the day before the exhibition, the city celebrated with a “Welcome Fireworks” display. Some of the fireworks depicted the face of a dog.
Center of Attention
Ryumon (five-year-old male) was selected as the Akiho Meiyosho (Medal of Honor) at the 145th Headquarters Exhibition. When he appeared as an invitation dog, he attracted much attention from visitors.
