Noshiro Kojuso is a kennel specializing in Akita dogs in Noshiro City, Akita Prefecture. We learned that the puppies born between June and August of this year are growing up fast and healthily. In early September, our reporter “sneaked” into the kennel to see the fluffy tiny puppies who will soon grow into big Akita dogs, and watched them having their breakfast. Looking at them eating with all their might and eating well, the reporter couldn’t help but smile. This is the fourth article in the series of five reports. (Reporting by Fujioka Maki)
Now it’s breastfeeding time for the six puppies born in mid-July. After the mother finished her breakfast, she returned to the cage where the six puppies are. As soon as they saw their mother back, the six puppies immediately rushed towards the best position of their mother’s belly to drink milk. It was as if we could hear someone shouting out “Time to eat!” and therefore everyone gathered in one direction.
During this time, if the mother moves even a little, the puppies will move with their mother using all their strength, hanging tight onto their mother. The reporter was moved by this sense of coordination, just like at a live concert.
After drinking the milk, the puppies started running around the cage as if they were fully recharged. Some were cuddling with their mother, while others were playing with each other. They are the perfect embodiment of the saying, “Breakfast is the source of energy.”
